As I pour through my thousands of images from our 3 days I just wanted to take a pause to thank you for such a successful tour. I was incredibly impressed by your dedication to your profession and your business, your vast knowledge of both the birds and natural world, your mastery of photographic techniques and composition, but most of all your ability to communicate everything in an amazingly informative and exciting manner day after day. It is truly a gift you have and I was honoured to be able to benefit from it.

Liron is a warm and friendly person, the type that puts everyone at their ease from the very beginning, so your sense of excitement about the journey ahead kicks in within seconds of meeting. Most importantly for keen birders like ourselves, Liron has a profoundly deep and extensive knowledge of not just the birds of British Columbia but of all the flora and fauna in the area. He is extremely informative and insightful about the mutually interdependent nature of the area's biosphere, the threats it faces and on how deeply it has been influenced by local culture and history.

Liron, you know your birds. I was extremely impressed not only by your spotting and identification skills, but also your knowledge of, and ability to anticipate, specific bird behavior. You're also a talented photographer that crafts unique and compelling images. It was a pleasure to learn something of how you approach you work and some helpful techniques in camera craft. And as I'd hoped, you also did a magnificent job of introducing us to places to productively photograph birds in the Vancouver area.

I just came back from a wildlife photography tour in Canada, and it honestly felt like the adventure of a lifetime. It was just my husband, me and Liron, which made the whole experience feel so personal and tailored. From the moment we set out, I felt like I was in the best hands – Liron not only knew the landscapes inside out but also had an incredible eye for where and when wildlife would appear. Some of my favorite moments were the quiet ones: waiting by the river and suddenly seeing a bear steps out of the forest, something I’d always dreamed of. Having the space and time to focus on these moments without a big group around made it all the more special. What I appreciated most was how much Liron cared about both photography and wildlife. He was patient, gave me great tips for adjusting my camera settings, and always made sure we respected the animals’ space. I simply love the way his creativity in photography is. I came back with memories of stillness, wonder, and connection to the wild that you just can’t put into words. Thanks Liron.

We had a 3 hour tour with Liron mostly around Beaver Lake in Vancouver. Liron is very knowledgeable and very good at finding birds by both sight and calls. We had a most enjoyable time and saw lots of new birds for us, the highlight being a very close encounter with a Barred Owl. I would highly recommend his services.

I had two days guiding with Liron in August 2024, around the Vancouver area. It was simply superb. We visited many birding hotspots, covering a wide range of habitats. Liron is a truely expert birder, finding and identifying every type of bird imaginable, And even beaver! He was considerate and friendly, and I had a simply wonderful two days. Highly recommended.

There were three of us on the trip and we were of differing ages, possessing varying levels of bird knowledge and interest. Liron was able to tailor his approach and knowledge to each level and to switch to general conversation and chat when we were all a bit tired. All three of us hugely enjoyed the trip and would give our right arms to do it again. It was the best bird trip any of us had undertaken, thanks to Liron and his preparation, thoughtfulness, equipment, approach, and character.

Liron is an incredibly knowledgeable birding guide who goes out of his way to ensure his guests receive the best experience possible. Liron’s passion for birds is evident as he willingly shares his knowledge about each species that is encountered. We will treasure this day and look forward to future tours in the years to come.

A fantastic day out, easily the highlight of my trip. I had been to some of the locations in the past but got so much more out of the experience on this occasion thanks to Liron's encyclopedic knowledge, and especially his skills with birdsong recognition. Equally important was that he's easy company and never once did I feel that awkwardness of spending a day with a stranger!

Four of us had a fantastic morning with Liron. His infectious enthusiasm and extensive knowledge and spotting ability inspired all of us, particularly 3 slightly sceptical non-birders. I would strongly recommend him to anyone in the area, and would love to go back for another outing with him. Thanks Liron.

-
Liron's knowledge of the local flora and fauna is outstanding. He easily identifies birds by their call and quickly spots even the most unobtrusive birds, setting up his spotting scope for the guest to have a close up view. Highly recommended for both novice and experienced birders.

I enjoyed the most fabulous day’s birding with Liron. We saw 86 species, most of which were new to me as a relatively inexperienced birder from the UK. Liron’s skills at identifying birds by sight or call were phenomenal and allowed me to enjoy newly arrived migrants such as a Bullock’s Oriole and Warblers including Townsend’s, Wilson’s and Yellow. He was great company too as we drove to different sites, and very happy to share his knowledge. I can not recommend him highly enough.

Liron is an excellent guide and birder and I had a fantastic tour! I signed up for the tour last minute as I had a flight canceled, Liron responded quickly and was able to even drive me to the birding locations we visited that day. 10/10 would recommend Liron to any birder, general naturalist or even someone looking for something different to do in Vancouver.

My wife Carol and I spent 2 wonderful days wildlife watching with Liron in October '23 in and around Vancouver on our journey to NZ. The weather on the first day was pretty wet, and we travelled further afield to see the salmon spawning, stopping at a number of wildlife hotspots along the way. On the second day we spent time at some delightful reserves close to the city. What a treat it all was. We had excellent views, benefitted from Liron's expertise and commentary, and all at a pleasant pace so we could enjoy the surroundings. We saw over 70 bird species, as well as a black bear and a beaver. So many highlights, we watched thousands of migrating snow geese arriving, nearly 300 bald eagles feasting on the salmon, harriers searching for voles, and so much more. Liron, is knowledgeable, friendly, adaptable, cares passionately about wildlife, is an exceptional photographer, loves his work, and wants you to enjoy your time with him. We hope to get back to Vancouver and spend more time with him,and are happy to recommend him to others.

Spent 4 enjoyable and memorable days birding with Liron on Vancouver Island in late March, 2023. We saw over 100 bird species. Liron is an excellent guide knowledgeable about the birds and where to find them. We had some very special sightings. Watched a pair of dippers gathering nesting material and bringing it to their nest site in a rock wall along a river. Enjoyed the spectacle of thousands of scoters, long-tailed ducks, goldeneyes, scaup, mergansers, other ducks and several gull varieties along the shore drawn by the herring spawn. The spawn also draws seals and sea lions and we had fun watching them in the waters near shore. I would be happy to go birding with Liron again.

I've been trying hard to think of a way Liron could up his game as a tour guide. I can't find any suggestions, unmet needs, disappointments, or frustrations with how he guided our birding trip. He has wisdom beyond his years and a passion for sharing Cool Nature Stuff with all manner of folk. He is patient, skilled at helping people find each bird. His humility makes him come across as "not a superhero" when, to be frank, he really was a superhero for all of us. I am still scratching my head as to how he deftly managed to wrangle 13 bodies from two countries and multiple time zones, keeping us all content in the face of Extremely Challenging Weather and other logistical surprises. He effortlessly turned a 90-minute wait during a downpour into a PowerPoint presentation showcasing his favorite birds. He remained ever upbeat, and his Can-Do attitude rubbed off on everyone. We came to respect and honor Liron greatly as the trip progressed. We plan to look for another one guided by him because he is a treasure.

For people not from the area, you most certainly come back feeling really informed and more enriched about the natural B.C. and you certainly feel all the better for having accompanied Liron on the tour. He was generous with his time, offering to guide us and educate us from early morning to late evening. He was just brilliant at bird identifications, both by sight and by their songs, and he has an uncanny knack of showcasing them all in an instant with his digiscope and binoculars!
-Seamus B, June 2023

We loved our birding trip with Liron. He's wonderful at finding and identifying the birds. On the trail he worked hard to make sure everyone had an opportunity to view a bird. I liked how considerate he was of his guests needs, planning for restroom stops, snacks and other requests. But most of all Liron is a very nice person, he is easy to talk to and always willing to share his knowledge.
-Jane C, June 2023

Liron not only has a very pleasant personality, he is also able to organize daily excursions and adapt to unexpected situations. His love of birding and extensive knowledge and enthusiasm is evident in each sighting as he shares the details about the birds. We were amazed at how he could spot the birds by sight or by song. Each day we travelled to a new site and were never disappointed. We would definitely travel with him as our guide again.
-Susan V, June 2023

Liron is an excellent birding mentor. He possesses quick reflexes, a keen eye, and a vast, professional knowledge and understanding of bird behaviour and recognition. When possible, he was helpful in bringing to my attention opportunities to get the shots I wanted (thank you Liron!). I’m grateful for the guidance provided and highly recommend him as your next birding guide.

I went birding with Liron for 3 days in and around Vancouver and the three days were magical. He is a true naturalist with a real passion for nature and all the interactions that occur between the flora and fauna. His passion is contagious. He has a wonderful sense of humor and I look forward to coming back. as soon as I can.

We had an extraordinary two days of birding. Being from Belgium we discovered many beautiful species in various habitats. Liron really, really knows his birds and where to find them. His respect for the birds themselves and their environment is palpable, and was much appreciated. After these two days we just want to know more about British Columbia and spend more time there!
-Diane D, August 2023

I had a really enjoyable and productive morning's birding. Liron was very communicative and it was easy to arrange plans. He designed a great day's birding and was super knowledgable about all the local sites and species, as well as wider ecological knowledge of the area. I will definitely try and connect with him again if / when I am back in the area

What a great experience. I learned so many interesting bird facts and looking through the magnifier on the camera was amazing. Thank you for all you shared. Your comfortable and welcoming teaching style has moved me from just liking birds to really wanting to know more about them!

Liron gave an informative, interesting, enthusiastic and bird filled tour. I am sure that he sensed birds as they were passing overhead, behind, in the under growth, identifying them by sound, in flight and visual sighting. I highly recommend this tour!

Liron’s knowledge of birds and their behaviour is excellent, and useful for anticipating shots. I also admire his different point of view in taking photographs, which in turn inspired me to look at my subjects in a whole new light.
-Natalie T, August 2018

I enjoyed learning about identification of bird calls at the onset, strategies to enhance image quality, discussion of neat strategies for lighting, and open discussion about your experiences. Overall I really enjoyed our morning photography tour and look forward to the next one!

It was my husbands 75th birthday in the time of Covid and we needed an outdoor program for my 4 grandchildren ( three 7 year olds and one nine). They all love birds so when a friend suggested it we jumped at it. It was marvellous. They loved it! It was exciting and informative .

We booked a private tour with Liron around the Vancouver area to help add to our North American species list. He communicated well with us in advance to find out what our interests were for the day. On the day itself, as we were new to the north American birds, he helped us hear and see common and more rare species easily. I was especially impressed how he could imitate the bird calls! Liron was friendly, knowledgeable and approachable all through the day. Thank you!

I had an amazing mini tour with Liron. He is very knowledgeable about birds and knows their songs and calls. He is a lovely person as well.

The workshop was a truly exceptional experience from start to finish with great accommodations, outstanding food, thrilling and beautiful photographic opportunities and excellent teaching. Liron put his clients first helping anyone at any time with any questions that arose. It was remarkable to watch how in the midst of eagle activity he would put down his camera to help some of the group members who had gear questions or needs. His photographic skills are pretty amazing as well as his ability to teach and impart valuable knowledge in a classroom balancing our days well between these two settings. Respectful, responsive, kind hearted and talented are just some of the words to describe Liron who offered us a special experience which will be treasured.

Photographers: take this eagle tour! The convergence of many hundreds of eagles feeding upon hake is a unique phenomenon and a sight to behold. Eagles soaring, aerial diving, talon extensions, squabbles, feeding behaviours, mid-air collisions, and even a few eagle swims - there is so much photographic joy. Eagles are just the beginning, we also encountered northern resident orca, humpback whales, dolphins, seals and sea lions, and many species of marine birds. Thank you Liron, Quinn and Campbell River Whale Watching for creating this incredible experience. Liron shares his vast photographic and wildlife knowledge freely. More importantly, his passion and love for the wildlife and waterscapes shines during every moment of the trip. Quinn, the captain of our zodiac, is a marvel. He negotiates rapids, finds the best lighting, sights wildlife and knows every nook and cranny along this convoluted waterway.

This was, by far, the most intense and wildlife rich expedition I have done to date. Seeing most all the primary species in the area over the 4 days could not have been more perfect, not to mention the stunning scenery we were surrounded by. The "eagle feeding spectacle " is beyond words and needs to be experienced first hand to be fully appreciated. This experience will press your photographic skills to the limit but the results are stunning. I have been culling images from this expedition that I would have died for earlier. Very well guided, organized and catered, I would recommend this to anyone looking to experience BC's wild coastline and spectacular show of wildlife.

Liron's course with Eagles exceeded my expectations. He is a masterful photographer who is passionate, very well organized with his deliverance and a wonderful teacher. As a beginning photographer, I found him to be very supportive of all levels of expertise. As I was probably the most inexperienced one in our group, I had lots of questions and needed perhaps more help than others. Not one question was left unanswered and all questions were answered with patience and respect. I learned a lot not only about the skill of photography but it increased my understanding of eagles in their natural habitat. Everything about this experience was top notch.
-Teresa B (2026 Bald Eagle and coastal wildlife photo workshop)

Photographing the eagles fishing is great fun and it was very satisfying to see how quickly Liron’s advice improved my results. His classroom sessions gave me new insights into how to make my photos more impactful through lighting, exposure and subtle post-processing adjustments. The great thing is being able to put what you learn in the morning into practice the same afternoon!
-Denzil A (2026 Bald Eagle and coastal wildlife photo workshop)

This photo workshop is beautiful - not only for the abundant daily photo opportunity of the eagles feeding, but equally for photographing Humpback Whales, Orcas, and other bird and animal life. I've been twice and hope to return again. What's particularly exceptional is the care of the captain and Liron to always get us in the right place and position for both light and subjects. I couldn't ask for a better experience.

Liron's Eagle Photography Workshop was a joy from start to finish! We went to some of the most beautiful terrain in the world and saw amazing sights including hundreds of eagles waiting to dive for hake in the water, orcas, humpback whales, bears, sea lions, etc. Liron is not only a superb photographer and naturalist, but he is also an excellent pedagogue, presenter, and a hell of a nice guy to boot! I learned so much in just a few days, and had fun doing so. There is a reason he gets many repeat customers.
-Alex V (2024 Bald Eagle and coastal wildlife photo workshop)

Few wildlife photographers are as facile at constantly teaching to improve your skills and appreciation of wildlife as Liron Gerstman. He runs a workshop with precision and purpose that is completely focused on the participant. Because Liron is so well organized, all of the details, transport and movement fades away into the background; you are immersed in the wildlife along with his knowledge and teaching.
-Paul W (2026 Bald Eagle and coastal wildlife photo workshop)

If you love birds, and if you love photography, then I highly recommend the "Bald Eagle Photo Workshop" by Liron Gertsman in conjunction with Campbell River Whale Watching & Adventure Tours. Liron is a real pro who knows his wildlife and his photography like no one else I have met. He brings a very interesting perspective to the photographing nature. The combination of Liron and Quinn, our boat captain, make an excellent pair to guide their clients through an extraordinary time! I HIGHLY recommend this tour to all!!

The bald eagle photography workshop exceeded my expectations. I loved all the time out on the water, where the beauty of the surroundings and the abundance of a variety of wildlife was amazing. The food was delicious and it was obvious that a lot of organization and planning went on behind the scenes to ensure a smooth operation. The photographic instruction included interesting presentations and one on one coaching for those that wanted it. I highly recommend this trip to any level of photographer who loves being out in nature.

Liron, the staff and crew were exceptional in their skill, caring and attentive to our safety, comfort, nutrition and photographing opportunities. They are also exceptional in their knowledge of the waters, wild life, and geology. Liron's morning sessions were informative and very well delivered - a wonderful and often rare opportunity to learn from such an expert and experienced photographer. Liron timed everything - especially the eagle feeding frenzy - exactly! Well done - I highly recommend Campbell River Whale Watching + Liron Gertsman, Photography Workshop Leader - thank you for this amazing opportunity to view, observe behavior, and perhaps get a couple of memorable photos.

I can unreservedly recommend this workshop for any one who is interested in capturing action shots of bald eagles. Liron is an enthusiastic and generous trip leader who taught me a lot and has greatly improved my photography. Our captain Bex was excellent at positioning the boat for the best shots. And all the whales, sea lions, and other birds were an unexpected bonus. This was an experience of a lifetime!

I thought it was the best workshop that I had ever been on. Liron is an excellent teacher, a good communicator, and fun, making the whole trip a delight to be on. I am already signed up for the trip through the Great Bear Rainforest and I can hardly wait.
-Phyllis A (2025 Bald Eagle and coastal wildlife photo workshop)

An excellent tour with four days of amazing photo opportunities. The "Eagle Show" was mind blowing. We had excellent humpback and orca viewing almost every day as well. On our final day we had a mindblowing sunset while we watched 4 nearby humpbacks. Our captain Bex, and our photo leader Liron, were both excellent. They have so much info on the wildlife, the geography and history. The trip far exceeded my expectations. I came home with 20,000+ photos that have probably at least a hundred true "winner" quality shots. As a plus, the hotel was great (easy 5 minute walk to the dock), and the catered lunches and dinners were excellent.
-Kevin T (2024 Bald Eagle and coastal wildlife photo workshop)

I took part in the bald eagle feeding frenzy photography workshop with Liron Gertsman. It was a great experience and the already high hopes for it were surpassed. A 100 % recommendation if you are looking for a photography workshop of the bald eagle feeding frenzy.
